Glen Burnie was founded in 1812 by district attorney Ellias Glenn. As a successful businessman, he worked in a number of industries and his family continued the legacy to develop the land of what we now know as Glen Burnie. Traffic runs north and south by Routes 97, 10, and 2 or Ritchie Highway. Traffic moves east to west primarily by Route 100.
Glen Burnie is also a major hub of transportation for the entire state. The town features Baltimore Washington International airport which also includes a major Amtrak train station. Additionally, Glen Burnie is served by light-rail train service which makes commuting to Baltimore for work or fun an ease!
The town is served by one major park which is Sawmill Creek Park. The park includes basketball, soccer fields, tennis courts, and a skateboarding park. The park is located off of Highway 97 and Dorsey Rd. During the winter, downtown Glen Burnie is transformed with an outdoor skating rink as pictured below. Additionally, the long and winding Baltimore Annapolis Trail which is a former railroad winds through town connecting the two cities. A long trail perfect for biking, walking, and running.
Glen Burnie is known to be one of the more affordable areas of Anne Arundel County to move to. Complete with single family living, the town has many townhome and condo communities as well. With shopping, transportation, and major employers nearby, this town will continue to prosper!
